Chris Powell backs Marvin Sordell to come good

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell believes that striker Marvin Sordell will silence his critics.

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell has said that Marvin Sordell can win over his critics at The Valley.

The 22-year-old striker joined the Addicks on a season-long loan from Bolton Wanderers in August and has scored just once in six matches for the club.

However, Powell believes that the player's confidence will grow once he finds the back of the net, starting with Saturday's game at Burnley.

"He is in the squad, we haven't decided on regards to what we are doing yet. We've worked on some stuff today with all the players," Powell told News Shopper.

"He showed a bit of quality to be fair [against Millwall, last weekend]. He came on and created a very good chance for Simon Church, but he is a player that is going to be here for the season.

"I want to get as much as I can out of him and I want to get him in the positions on the field where he can be in a goalscoring mood as such, because there is a goal scorer there. I know from his previous history at Watford, Bolton and England U21s there is a player there that has got no doubt ability and finishing prowess."

Sordell joined Bolton from Watford in 2012.
