Ron Harris: 'Rafael Benitez has done very well'

Benitez's tenure at Chelsea can be considered a success, according to former club captain Ron Harris.

Former Chelsea captain Ron Harris has paid tribute to the job that interim manager Rafael Benitez has done at the club.

Benitez's appointment was met with much derision by Chelsea fans and he was often subjected to a chorus of boos in his first few games in charge.

However, Harris - who played 795 games for the club - has said that Benitez can count his time at Chelsea a success, after guiding them to a Champions League place and a 2-1 win in the Europa Cup final.

"The fans never took to his appointment for whatever reasons and there is no doubt he had difficult times," Harris told BBC Sport.

"But I think the majority of Chelsea fans will appreciate what he has done and think he has done very well.

"Rafa can leave the club knowing he has done very well."

Rafael Benitez has previously managed Valencia, Liverpool and Inter Milan.
