Sunderland have failed in a bid to sign Asmir Begovic on loan from Chelsea, according to reports.
The Black Cats have been forced back into the transfer market having seen regular first-choice keeper Vito Mannone ruled out for at least three months with an elbow injury.
Jordan Pickford filled in for the injured shot-stopper against Southampton last weekend, but manager David Moyes is understood to want a more experienced keeper to plug the gap.
However, the Northern Echo reports that Chelsea have rejected an approach for Begovic due to their lack of other cover for Thibaut Courtois.
Begovic joined Chelsea from Stoke City in 2015 and has since made 26 appearances for the club as Courtois's back-up.
