FC Dallas were held to a 1-1 draw by Philadelphia Union in an even game at FC Dallas Stadium.
The hosts started well and, after Andrew Jacobson had been denied by a good save from Karry Harrison, Blas Perez opened the scoring with a firm header on seven minutes.
Perez should have doubled the lead just before half time but he lost his balance and headed well over from Bryan Leyva's corner kick.
Philadelphia levelled the scores 12 minutes into the second half as Gabriel Gomez showed extreme bravery to head low into the bottom corner.
The Panama international had to be substituted after sustaining an injury in the act of scoring.
Josue Martinez had a gilt-edged chance to win the game for Philadelphia late on but he screwed his shot wide from six yards.
