Wayne Rooney is to learn the full consequences of receiving a red card during England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro last week.
UEFA will rule on whether to extend the striker's one-match suspension to a longer ban tomorrow.
Article 10(e) of the body's disciplinary regulations allow for "suspension for three competition matches or for a specified period for assaulting another player or other person present at the match".
If these guidelines are followed fully, the Manchester United player could be forced to sit out on all three of England's group matches next summer.
The 25-year-old picked up the card after kicking Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic during the 2-2 draw.
Both Rooney and England manager Fabio Capello are understood to have written to UEFA in a bid for leniency. Meanwhile, the Football Association are expected to appeal the decision if the ban is extended beyond one match.
