Harry Kane scores on England debut in comfortable victory over Lithuania

England beat Lithuania 4-0 at Wembley to earn a fifth straight win in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Harry Kane scored on his England debut as the Three Lions maintained their winning start to Euro 2016 qualifying with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Lithuania at Wembley this evening.

The striker came off the bench to score in the second half, with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling also on target as England won their fifth straight game in Group E.

The hosts came within inches of breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute when Rooney burst clear of the defence and placed a low shot past the keeper that came back off the inside of the post.

However, just two minutes later Rooney did find the net with a close-range header after Welbeck's strike had been parried by the keeper.

The woodwork would then deny Rooney for the second time as his looping header from Welbeck's cross hit the bar, with Jordan Henderson seeing his effort from the rebound deflect over the top.

On a rare foray forward, Lithuania caused a moment of panic when Vytautas Andriuskevicius got in down the left and flashed a low ball across the box that was turned behind at the front post by Deivydas Matulevicius.

It was England who looked the more likely to score the next goal and Rooney threatened once more with a low free kick that was held by Giedrius Arlauskis, before Welbeck fired over the bar.

As the game edged towards half time England made their dominance count by scoring a second goal, as Welbeck met Henderson's delivery and nodded the ball into the net, with the aid of a slight deflection.

The Three Lions began the second half as they started the opening 45 minutes and Fabian Delph was denied a debut goal for his country when Arlauskis pushed his stinging volley behind.

Arlauskis was called into action again moments later to beat away Welbeck's powerful drive from a tight angle.

There was nothing the keeper could do in the 58th minute as Sterling arrived at the front post to touch in Rooney's low cross and score his first goal for England.

With England in such a commanding position, Kane was brought on for his debut and within 80 seconds of being on the pitch he found the net with a thumping header at the back post from Sterling's cross.

Delph dragged a shot wide of the post in the final minutes and it proved to be the home side's last chance to score as they claimed the three points to stay in firm command of their qualifying group.
