Everton midfielder Leon Osman has admitted that he has always harboured hopes of representing his country.
The 31-year-old was selected in his first England squad for their clash with Sweden on Wednesday and will make his intentional debut should he be given the chance.
"I am feeling good. My football seems to be going ok and I am enjoying it. I am pleased the form I have shown for Everton has been recognised," he told reporters.
"To find ourselves fourth in the league and playing probably the best football we have played as a club for a good number of years and to be part of that has probably played a big part.
"I said I'd never give up hope and as an English lad I always had that desire to play for my country. I did not give up hope. It is great. It is a strange situation to come in as a rookie but be more experienced in the game than most of the players. It is a strange position but one I am enjoying so far."
Osman has made 315 appearances for Everton.
