Report: Everton to offer Leighton Baines new deal

A report claims that Everton want to hand England full-back Leighton Baines a new contract ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Everton are reportedly preparing to offer experienced left-back Leighton Baines a new long-term deal.

The 31-year-old, who moved to Goodison Park from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2007, signed a new contract with the Toffees in January 2014 after a reported transfer to Manchester United broke down.

It is thought that the left-back had a difficult relationship with Roberto Martinez last season, but Ronald Koeman, who Baines praised last month, has since replaced the Spaniard as Everton boss.

According to the Liverpool Echo, talks over a new contract will soon begin as Baines prepares to take his stay at Goodison Park past the 10-year mark.

The England international has scored 33 times in 341 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
