Daniel Sturridge "devastated" over Liverpool Champions League exit

Injured Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge says that he is "devastated" over the club's failure to reach the last 16 of the Champions League.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has admitted that he is "devastated" over the Reds' elimination from the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers's side drew 1-1 with Basel at Anfield last night in what was a must-win game if they were to reach the last 16.

Sturridge, who has been out of action since late August with a thigh injury, took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the result.

He tweeted: "We fought hard man. Sat here devastated wishing I could have helped. We'll come back stronger from this and I'm working hard to do the same."

The Merseysiders had trailed 1-0 at the break courtesy of a Fabian Frei strike, before their task grew more difficult on the hour mark when Lazar Markovic was sent off.

Steven Gerrard pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining, but the Premier League side failed to snatch the all-important winner and will now drop into the Europa League.
