Edinson Cavani feels that his Uruguay international teammate Luis Suarez may need to leave Liverpool if they don't qualify for the Champions League next season.

The 26-year-old has been in excellent form this season for Brendan Rodgers's side, scoring 29 goals in all competitions.

Cavani told The Mirror: "The fact is that Luis is one of the top strikers in the world and he wants to be playing Champions League football.

"Of course, Liverpool are not going to make it this season. But of they don't make it next season then they will have a problem.

"Luis would love to play in the Champions League with Liverpool. But if he can't then a player of his quality needs to play for a club where he can."

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League, nine points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.
