Former Liverpool captain Alan Hansen has heaped praise on current centre-back Daniel Agger.
The Danish international has become an integral player at Anfield following his 2006 move from Brondby.
Hansen, who won a number of honours during a 14-year playing career on Merseyside, now believes that Agger is typical of the classic defenders at the club.
"He's exceptionally comfortable in possession of the ball," the Scot told the Liverpool Echo. "He's never embarrassed when the ball is at his feet - and traditionally Liverpool centre-backs have always been all of that.
"If you look at the attributes you want in a top class centre-back he's a nine out of 10 in the vast majority, which are very high figures."
Agger was linked with a summer move to Manchester City before signing a new long-term contract with the club in October.
