Jurgen Klopp backs Liverpool's decision not to pay £38m for Alex Teixeira

Jurgen Klopp backs Liverpool's decision not to meet Shakhtar Donetsk's £38m asking price for Alex Teixeira.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that the club made the right call by refusing to meet Shakhtar Donetsk's £38m price tag for Alex Teixeira.

The Merseyside outfit are believed to have tabled £25m and £28m offers to the Ukrainian club during the January transfer window.

Teixeira expressed a desire to join the Reds as the playmaker hopes to boost his chances of playing for the Brazil national team.

However, Shakhtar dug in their heels and Liverpool opted against meeting their asking price.

"It was absolutely a common decision," The Independent quotes Klopp as saying. "We said we cannot play this game until the end.

"We made offers - I won't say too much about that but they were realistic, absolutely, with the pluses of it being January, the Premier League, all the pluses you have when you make negotiations with other clubs. But it was a case of 'if you don't want it, okay, we can't change the situation, do what you want'. You have to work respectfully and responsibly."

Reports have claimed that Liverpool will revisit the transfer in the summer.
