Liverpool see their bid to sign Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho on deadline day fall through at the 11th hour after failing to complete the paperwork in time.

Liverpool's bid to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham on deadline day has collapsed.

The Reds were understood to have agreed a fee with the Championship promotion hopefuls which would see them sign Carvalho on Monday, but loan him back to Fulham for the remainder of the campaign.

However, they were unable to get the paperwork completed before the 11pm transfer deadline, causing the proposed deal to fall through.

Unlike in the Premier League, there are no deal sheets in the EFL, meaning that Liverpool were unable to secure an extension beyond the deadline.

Carvalho is understood to have completed his medical in Liverpool ahead of the move, but both parties ran out of time to squeeze through a deal.

Liverpool are expected to return for Carvalho in the summer, when he will be out of contract at Craven Cottage.

Any deal done then is likely to include a tribunal to determine a fee due to the part Fulham have played in the attacker's development - something Liverpool were keen to avoid.

However, the Merseyside outfit remain keen on signing Carvalho, who himself is thought to be eager to play under Jurgen Klopp.
