Andre Schubert: 'We will not freeze against Manchester City'

Borussia Monchengladbach interim boss Andre Schubert states that his side will not be fazed by coming up against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Borussia Monchengladbach interim manager Andre Schubert has insisted that his side will not be overawed by the prospect of facing Manchester City.

The two sides meet in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday evening at Borussia-Park, in what will be Monchengladbach's first ever home match in the competition.

Schubert took charge of the Bundesliga side last week following the departure of Lucien Favre, leading them to two wins in succession, and he is looking to maintain that form against the Premier League outfit.

"Manchester City are very good and have outstanding players but it is not an overwhelming opponent," the German told Reuters.

"We won't freeze in awe but instead want to show what we've got on the pitch. What we need to do is run a lot to reduce the distance between the parts of our team, to keep them small.

"The beautiful thing about football is that with a good plan and a united team you could beat an arguably stronger opponent and we want to try that on Wednesday."

City and Monchengladbach's only previous meetings came in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1979, when the German side prevailed 4-2 on aggregate after two legs.
