Manchester City defender John Stones says that the opportunity to play for Pep Guardiola was the main factor in his switch to the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City defender John Stones has insisted that he could not turn down the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola.

Stones was courted by several Premier League clubs during the summer transfer window but despite interest from elsewhere, he has suggested that City was always his number-one choice once Guardiola moved to the Etihad Stadium.

The 22-year-old told Soccer AM: "Pep Guardiola was 100% a major factor, if not the main reason for me coming.

"There's a lot of factors when you're thinking about moving clubs but in my eyes he's the best manager in the world to work with. To be given that opportunity to work with him, I couldn't say no."

Stones has made 17 appearances for City since leaving Everton in August.
