Manchester United's Bastian Schweinsteiger not fit to start against Liverpool

Bastian Schweinsteiger will start Manchester United's game against Liverpool as a substitute, manager Louis van Gaal confirms.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Bastian Schweinsteiger will not start tomorrow night's Europa League tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Following a two-month layoff with a knee injury, the German midfielder has appeared as a substitute in United's last two matches.

There had been suggestions that he would now start the game that United must win by three clear goals to reach the quarter-finals, but Van Gaal has told reporters that the 31-year-old is not ready to play from the beginning just yet.

In further team news, Van Gaal revealed that neither Ashley Young nor Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will be involved, despite their presence at today's training session.
