Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says that the proposed European Super League could start as early as next season.

Florentino Perez has suggested that he wants the proposed European Super League to start next season.

On Sunday night, it was announced that 12 of European football's biggest clubs would break away from the Champions League, forming a division which would involve no relegation and generate each club substantial new revenue.

The idea has been met with unrelenting criticism, including from the Premier League and UEFA, but Real Madrid president Perez has hinted that the league will begin next season if they are given the green light.

Asked about the timing of the announcement, Perez told El Chiringuito: "In case we can start next season, soon.

"City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. Inter, Milan, Juventus, Madrid, Atleti, Barcelona. When we have left it is with the certainty that we are doing well.

"We all signed on Saturday. Anyone to leave? No, it is binding. They do not leave. We are all going to negotiate together.

"The English are most upset because anyone could think that the Premier League was going to disappear. Those who do not want to lose their privileges have said that."

The other 14 clubs in the Premier League will meet on Tuesday to discuss their next move, while UEFA are seeking legal advice over whether they can kick Real, Manchester City and Chelsea out of this season's Champions League.
