Former Chelsea centre-back Frank Leboeuf has claimed that Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk is a "more complete" defender than Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic.
Van Dijk has had a transformative impact on Liverpool since joining the club in January 2018, quickly establishing himself as one of the world's best players and finishing as runner-up to Lionel Messi in last year's Ballon d'Or voting.
The Dutchman's performances have led to comparisons with some of the great centre-backs in Premier League history, and Leboeuf believes that the Liverpool man has already surpassed Vidic.
When asked who was better out of the two players, Lebeouf told ESPN FC: "I would go for Van Dijk. I think he's more complete.
"I loved Vidic, because I think he was a dog, and a fantastic defender. But Van Dijk can lead the team and has range.
"I don't think Vidic was capable of doing that. Hats off to Vidic, though."
Vidic won five Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League during his time with United, while Van Dijk has also won the Champions League and is on course to lift the Premier League title with Liverpool this season.
