Ander Herrera likes the competitive training sessions under Louis van Gaal

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is enjoying Louis van Gaal's intense training sessions and feels that they have played a part in the club's recent form.

Ander Herrera has said that he is enjoying the training sessions under new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

Herrera joined United in the summer from Athletic Bilbao and is happy with life after seeing them climb into the top four, following a a slow start to the season.

The Spaniard believes the active training sessions are a big factor, telling reporters: "I enjoy the sessions the day before a game because we work on ball possession, shooting and set-plays", he told reporters.

"All the mini matches are important because the coaches are looking at us before each game.

"We have a very competitive squad- we always want to win in matches or in training. I think this is the right tactic because you play like you train."

United visit Southampton on Monday, as they hope to extend their Premier League winning streak to five games.
