Southampton manager Ronald Koeman unhappy with defensive errors in United loss

Ronald Koeman makes his unhappiness known at the defensive errors made by his Southampton side in their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.

Ronald Koeman has vented his anger at Southampton's defensive mistakes in Sunday's defeat to Louis van Gaal's Manchester United.

The Southampton manager's unhappiness stems from players passing the ball back to the keeper, something which Anthony Martial punished Maya Yoshida for doing in the Saints' 3-2 loss.

"I hate players - in general, not to criticise Maya who made that mistake - I hate players who pass the ball always back to the goalkeeper," Koeman told reporters following his side's defeat.

"Play the ball into the space in front because then you put the pressure on them. We saw the weaknesses of Manchester United today defensively. Every day we tell the players: 'Play that ball and don't play the ball back to the goalkeeper'.

"I will tell them tomorrow the same story because it is always a risk. We have to learn from that because we made that mistake last year and we did it again today."

Southampton welcome Swansea to St Mary's in their next Premier League fixture on September 26.
