Jamie Redknapp thinks that Michael Carrick's goalscoring record isn't "good enough" for a midfielder.

Jamie Redknapp believes that Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick needs to shape up in front of goal.

The Red Devils playmaker scored in the Premier League champions' 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

Despite Carrick clinching the winner for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, the ex-Liverpool player believes that the 30-year-old hasn't been "good enough" in terms of goal threat.

"It was [Carrick's] first goal for 70 games," Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail. "I know Michael, I think he is a smashing footballer, but that isn't good enough.

"I know he's the holding player for United, but he can play with both feet, hits a ball cleanly and sweetly and should be scoring 10 goals a season."

United went to the top of the table briefly following their win at Loftus Road, but were knocked back down to second when Manchester City defeated Arsenal yesterday.
