Wayne Rooney: 'We must move on from Swansea City defeat'

Wayne Rooney calls on his Manchester United teammates to "move on" from their 2-1 defeat to Swansea City in Louis van Gaal's first competitive match in charge.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has called on his teammates to "move on" from their opening-day defeat to Swansea City in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday in what was new manager Louis van Gaal's first competitive game in charge.

Despite starting their season with a disappointing result, Rooney has vowed that the team will look to improve when they travel to Sunderland next Saturday.

"We've got eight days now until the next game," he told MUTV. "We need to prepare right and get this result out of our system. We start our season from there.

"It was a disastrous start for us, but we have to move on. We're not happy, the manager's not happy. We'll have to go through what went wrong during the week. We'll do that."

Rooney opened his account for the season against Swansea, netting an equaliser before Gylfi Sigurdsson's winning goal.
