Manchester United and Chelsea play out a stalemate

Manchester United and Chelsea play out a goalless draw in David Moyes's Old Trafford debut in charge of the Red Devils.

Manchester United and Chelsea were forced to share the points from their Premier League match at Old Trafford this evening as it ended goalless.

The first sight of goal fell to the visitors as Rio Ferdinand could only clear a cross as far as Oscar on the edge of the box, but David de Gea was equal to the Brazilian's effort.

Petr Cech's goal remained in little danger for much of the opening period, but Robin van Persie did fire a warning shot midway through the half when his effort hit the side-netting.

Some good work from Patrice Evra almost created the opener as he hassled Kevin de Bruyne before feeding Wayne Rooney, who opted to pass to Danny Welbeck instead of going for goal himself. Welbeck could not get his feet sorted in time, however, and fluffed his eventual shot.

Chelsea were the next to come close when a loose ball fell to Gary Cahill, whose well-struck shot was held by De Gea.

Rooney tested Cech with just over 10 minutes remaining, but the Chelsea keeper was equal to the striker's rising effort, pushing it behind for a corner.

Neither side could create another chance in the closing stages as the match ended goalless and the spoils were shared.
