Manchester City to rival Manchester United for Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi?

Manchester City will reportedly try to ruin Manchester United's pursuit of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi by launching their own bid this week.

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to fight Premier League rivals Manchester United for the signature of Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the red half of the city, but it appears that Manuel Pellegrini is also keen on the centre-back.

According to Superdeporte, officials from both United and City have met with Otamendi's agent Jorge Mendes in Portugal and are preparing to launch their respective bids this week.

The Argentina international, who was recently reported to be keen on a switch to United, is believed to have a €50m (£34.7m) release clause in his contract at Valencia.
