Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly hold an interest in signing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen as a potential transfer target.

After his long-term association with Chelsea, Christensen chose to make the switch to Camp Nou on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

The deal can be described as a huge success for all parties, with the Denmark international already making 45 starts and five substitute outings in all competitions.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old has a La Liga title to his name and remains as a first-choice pick in the centre of Xavi's backline.

However, as a result of Barcelona's well-documented financial issues, the majority of the first-team squad remain available for transfer for the right price.

As it stands, it is unclear what kind of fee would be required for Barcelona to accept an offer for Christensen, but possessing two-and-a-half years left on his contract means that decisions may need to be taken in the summer.

According to Fichajes, Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation in the event that they can secure the services of a high-profile player for a reduced fee.

The report suggests that Christensen is on the radar of each of Man United and Spurs, with the likelihood being that a bid would arrive in the summer over the current window.

Although United have a number of central defensive options at their disposal, Raphael Varane could depart on a free transfer at the end of the season and Jonny Evans is now 36 years of age.

United must also reduce their wage bill and generate funds before they will be in a position to contemplate an approach for Christensen.

Meanwhile, Spurs are known to be in the market for a new central defender and could strengthen their ranks with the addition of Genoa's Radu Dragusin over the coming days.

Nevertheless, if they return to European competition for 2024-25, Ange Postecoglou will require at least one more player for that position to challenge the Romania international - assuming that he signs - and the current first-choice pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

From Christensen's perspective, the consensus is that he is settled playing for the Catalan giants on a regular basis, but it is known that club officials must make mass cutbacks to comply with La Liga's wage cap ahead of next season.
