Ronald Koeman is backed by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf to take over as Netherlands boss for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has reportedly been backed by the Dutch media to take over the Netherlands national team.

Oranje failed to qualify for a playoff spot for the 2018 World Cup, despite defeating Sweden 2-0 in their final qualifier on Tuesday night.

The Dutch have now failed to make the finals of two major tournaments in a row, but current head coach Dick Advocaat is not expected to step down just yet.

The former Sunderland boss is due to oversee a handful of upcoming friendlies, but De Telegraaf believes that Koeman should be the man in charge for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The 54-year-old, who won the European Championships with his country as a player in 1988, was Netherlands assistant between 1997 and 1998, but since then has focused on club management.

Koeman has been under the spotlight at Everton due to the club's poor start to the season, which has seen them pick up just two wins in seven Premier League matches.
