Newcastle United's Rob Elliot: 'Display against Leicester City not acceptable'

Newcastle United keeper Rob Elliot slams his side's performance in their 3-0 loss to Leicester City at St James' Park.

Newcastle United keeper Rob Elliot has conceded that his side's display in their defeat to Leicester City was unacceptable.

The Magpies slipped to their seventh defeat of the campaign as goals from Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki fired Claudio Ranieri's men to the victory.

Elliot has admitted that he and his teammates have to raise the level of their game for their next outing in the top flight against Crystal Palace to get back on track.

Elliot told The Chronicle: "We have to hold our hands up, we were poor, and they were the better team. There are no excuses at all, we know that.

"It's not acceptable, especially after the performances we put in recently and the character we have shown. This was really disappointing.

"I just want to make sure there are no excuses, we hold our hands up and apologise. The only thing we can do now is go out and put it right against Crystal Palace."

Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League after 13 matches this season.
