Eintracht Frankfurt full-back Jetro Willems has confirmed that he wants to return to Newcastle United on a permanent basis.
The 26-year-old made 20 appearances for the Magpies earlier this term before seeing his loan move cut short by a season-ending cruciate ligament injury.
Newcastle are understood to have had an £11m option-to-buy clause in the loan contract, although it has not yet been confirmed whether that is still able to be triggered after the deal was ended prematurely.
However, Willems is in no doubt about his personal preference and is eager to return to St James' Park once the transfer window reopens.
Asked by one fan during a Twitter chat what his desire is, the Dutchman replied: "To sign and play for NUFC.
"Everyone wants or hopes that I come back or sign a permanently deal at NUFC but I think it's more a question for the club if they want me back."
Newcastle have also been linked with moves for the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edinson Cavani should the proposed Saudi-backed takeover of the club go through.
