Norwich City fell to defeat in their second pre-season game as San Jose Earthquakes earned a 1-0 in their friendly encounter.
The hosts took the lead in the seventh minute when Russell Martin's attempted backpass was intercepted by Cordell Cato, who made no mistake in firing the ball past Mark Bunn.
Norwich tried to respond as Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Anthony Pilkington combined to set up Jonny Howson, who saw his effort beaten away by David Bingham in the Earthquakes goal.
After the break, Hughton rung the changes and one of those substitutes Luciano Becchio managed to mishit his effort when played through on goal after Pilkington had worked an opening for him.
San Jose almost doubled their lead when Adam Jahn found himself in space in the box but he couldn't beat John Ruddy in the Norwich goal, while minutes later the striker again failed to hit the target as he curled his effort past the post.
Chris Hughton's side tried to get back into the game late on but weren't able to muster any clear-cut chances, as they succumbed to their first defeat of pre-season.
