Parma winger Jonathan Biabiany has been ruled out indefinitely after medical tests revealed that he has a heart problem.
The 26-year-old had been on the verge of joining AC Milan earlier this month, but an irregular heartbeat was discovered during his medical.
"We immediately stopped Biabiany's sporting activity," Parma general manager Pietro Leonardi told reporters.
"On September 1 a cardiac arrhythmia appeared that had never previously shown itself. On July 10 he underwent a medical in Parma and was given the all-clear.
"Out of respect for his privacy, we left out some truths over the last few days. Jonathan will only get back on to the field when we have total safety for his health."
Biabiany scored four goals for Parma last season as they finished sixth in Serie A.
