Nigel Adkins: 'Reading playing chess with injuries'

Reading boss Nigel Adkins describes dealing with his current injury list as like "playing chess".

Reading boss Nigel Adkins has described dealing with his current injury list as like "playing chess".

The Royals managed to edge back into the Championship's playoff places on goal difference by drawing 1-1 with already-promoted Leicester City last night.

The point came at a price, however, as the club now have several injury concerns ahead of the final four games of the season.

Jordan Obita, Garath McCleary and Danny Williams all had to come off because of knocks and with Danny Guthrie already out, the Royals look short in midfield.

"We went into the game playing chess, knowing we'll get an hour out of this person or half an hour out of some," Adkins told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"Then in the game we had to make three subs because of injuries."

Reading are now level on points with Brighton & Hove Albion and Ipswich Town with four games of the season left. The Royals' run-in comprises Wigan Athletic (A), Middlesbrough (H), Doncaster Rovers (A), Burnley (H).
