Salford City sign Adam Rooney from Aberdeen

Striker Adam Rooney decides to leave Aberdeen to sign a deal with National League outfit Salford City.

National League outfit Salford City have completed the signing of Aberdeen forward Adam Rooney for an undisclosed fee.

New manager Graham Alexander is currently in the process of trying to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion, and the North-West outfit have pulled off a coup in bringing in Rooney.

The 30-year-old has spent the last four years north of the border - scoring 66 goals in the Scottish Premiership - but the decision has been made to return to England at the fifth tier.

Rooney told the club's official website: "I had a great time at Aberdeen but when I heard of the interest from Salford, it was something that really intrigued me.

"[The club] wants to get as high up as possible and hopefully I can help the club achieve that by scoring goals and help push the club up through the leagues."

Salford will be Rooney's eighth club in English football, with spells having already being spent at the likes of Stoke City, Birmingham City and Swindon Town.
