Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe is expected be out of action for three weeks with ankle ligament damage.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe faces three weeks on the sidelines due to ligament damage on his ankle.

The 30-year-old sparked injury fears when he hobbled off the field during Spurs' 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday and was forced to pull out of England's friendly against Brazil this week.

While some reports had claimed that the forward would be ruled out for up to two months, it is understood that a three-week layoff is likely, according to Sky Sports News.

The North London side are expected to look to Emmanuel Adebayor, who is due to return to White Hart Lane tomorrow following Togo's quarter-final exit from the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, to replace the frontman.
