Heurelho Gomes slams Tottenham Hotspur for 'ruining players' careers'

Heurelho Gomes urges players to avoid joining Tottenham Hotspur because they 'ruin careers'.

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has taken a swipe at the North London club by claiming that he wouldn't advise any player to sign for the Premier League outfit.

The Brazilian, who now plays for newly-promoted top-flight side Watford, spent six years at White Hart Lane before moving to Vicarage Road.

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, the 34-year-old criticised Tottenham's treatment of Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela, who have struggled to make significant impacts in England.

"It's the club [who are to blame]," said Gomes. "Certainly, I would not recommend to anyone [to join Spurs].

"They paid 28 million pounds for Soldado and they don't play him. Or look at Lamela, who was a great promise in Europe, but today you watch Tottenham games and he looks like he can't play football at all."

Gomes will face Spurs next season after Watford earned promotion by finishing second in the Championship.
