Harry Kane: 'Tottenham Hotspur deserved bigger win over Manchester United'

Harry Kane says that Tottenham Hotspur should have defeated Manchester United by a wider margin in their Premier League fixture at Wembley Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has admitted that he and his teammates were surprised to be allowed to create so many chances against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Spurs prevailed by a 2-0 scoreline at Wembley Stadium thanks to an opener from Christian Eriksen after just 11 seconds and an own goal from Phil Jones before the half-hour mark.

However, the North Londoners squandered numerous opportunities to win by a wider margin, and Kane has acknowledged that there was some disappointment that more goals were not scored against Jose Mourinho's side.

The 24-year-old is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "We played very well. You don't normally get that many opportunities against United. They're normally solid at the back and you have to break them down.

"Obviously getting that goal so quickly opened up the game for us and the only downside was that we didn't score more. Sometimes we say before the game, 'Let's go for this today' and it worked out well. It was important.

"It set us off for getting runners in behind, trusting that we're going to win the first ball and then the second ball - that's how we played throughout the whole pitch and it worked well for us."

Spurs remain in fifth position in the league standings, but now sit just five points adrift of second-placed United.
