Mauricio Pochettino: 'Tottenham Hotspur not Premier League title contenders'

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino plays down suggestions that his side can challenge for the Premier League title toward the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino has played down the prospect of Tottenham Hotspur mounting a Premier League title challenge, insisting that they are not at that level just yet.

Spurs, whose only defeat came on the first day of the season away to Manchester United, can move within two points of co-leaders Arsenal with a win at the Emirates on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Pochettino claims that the a title bid is unrealistic for the Lilywhites, who also have the second best defensive record in the league, with nine goals conceded.

"The end of the season is too far away. We want to be at the top of the table but don't misunderstand me, we need to work a lot, learn a lot and improve a lot," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"It is impossible to set the limit. Why should we? We have a very young squad and we never set a limit.

"We need to be open to improving in every game and at the end of the season, when we have five games to go, I can maybe talk about it."

Tottenham sit fifth in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
