Danny Higginbotham: 'Glen Johnson right for Stoke City'

Danny Higginbotham tells Sports Mole that Glen Johnson will prove himself to be a "very good signing" for his former club Stoke City.

Ex-Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham has insisted that Glen Johnson was a "very good signing" by the club.

The 30-year-old completed his switch to the Britannia Stadium at the weekend following his release by Liverpool at the end of last season.

Having lost his place at full-back for both the Merseysiders and the senior England side in recent months, there had been suggestions that Johnson was on the decline.

However, Higginbotham, who made over 120 appearances during two stints with the Potters, has told Sports Mole that the former West Ham United and Chelsea defender still has "a lot to offer" to Mark Hughes's side.

"He's a very good signing for Stoke. At times last season, Phil Bardsley had to cover at left-back, which meant that Geoff Cameron, who is more of a midfielder, had to fill in at right-back. Johnson is still a good age and has a lot to offer," he said.

"He's full of experience and quick, which will be useful because Stoke demand a lot from their full-backs on the counter-attack. The players in front of them play narrow, so there will be width for him to exploit."

Johnson is the sixth player to have signed for Stoke this summer following the additions of Philipp Wollscheid, Jakob Haugaard, Joselu, Marco van Ginkel and Shay Given.
