Gus Poyet 'coy on rumours linking him to Sunderland vacancy'

Gus Poyet is reportedly coy on reports linking him with the managerial position at Sunderland, left vacant by Paolo Di Canio's dismissal.

Former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has refused to comment on speculation that he is a contender for the managerial vacancy at Sunderland.

The Black Cats are in the hunt for a new boss following their decision to sack Paolo Di Canio after just five Premier League games of the season, which has left them at the bottom of the table.

Following the news, Poyet has been touted as a possible replacement along with Roberto Di Matteo, who has been out of work since November last year when he was sacked by Chelsea.

According to BBC Sport, Poyet has said "we'll see" during a telephone conversation this morning after stating that he wants to manage in the top flight.

Rumours have surfaced claiming that a training ground bust-up led to Di Canio's sacking.
