New Sunderland signing Gino Peruzzi will not arrive at the club until Sunday, despite having been due to undergo a medical today.

Argentine club Velez Sarsfield have said that Gino Peruzzi's move to Sunderland will not be completed before the weekend.

The Buenos Aires side confirmed yesterday that they have agreed to sell the defender to the Black Cats and initially claimed that he would undergo a medical with the Premier league club today.

However, a new statement on the team's official website reads: "Given the imminent transfer of Gino Peruzzi to Sunderland Association Football Club, finally next Sunday, July 14, both the player and the directors Julio Baldomar and Eduardo Ordonez will travel to England to complete initial contracts between the parties and thus close the sale."

The 21-year-old initially turned down a move to Sunderland.
