Swansea City boss Garry Monk insists Bafetimbi Gomis is "fine"

Swansea City boss Garry Monk reveals that Bafetimbi Gomis is "fine" after the striker collapsed on the pitch at White Hart Lane in the seventh minute of their match.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has revealed that Bafetimbi Gomis is "fine" after the striker collapsed on the pitch at White Hart Lane.

The 29-year-old fell to the ground after Nacer Chadli had put Tottenham Hotspur in the lead in the seventh minute of the match.

Gomis was treated by paramedics and given oxygen before being stretchered off the field, but he did have his eyes open and was able to speak before being taken to hospital.

The former Lyon forward has prior history of collapsing as he fainted three times in his spell with the Ligue 1 club, but Monk has insisted that Gomis is fine.

He told BBC Sport: "Bafetimbi Gomis is fine. He went to hospital as a precaution but he is fine. That's the main thing. He just needed a minute but he was talking when he came off the pitch.

"We understand his history. He has had all the tests but it's just part of life for him."

A spokesman from the club added: "It is something we have been aware of - it is something called a vasovagal condition. We have always been aware of it and it has happened before. He has had all the medical and cardiology tests with us."

Gomis has made 29 appearances for the Swans this season, scoring five goals.
