Garry Monk: 'Thibaut Courtois foul was a red card'

Garry Monk says that Swansea City deserved 'at least a point' following their 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Swansea City manger Garry Monk believes that the referee was right to send off Thibaut Courtois during his side's 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

The Blues were leading 2-1 when Courtois rushed off his line and brought down Bafetimbi Gomis just inside the box.

Despite Gary Cahill being in close proximity to the action, Michael Oliver decided that the goalkeeper was the last man and showed him a straight red card.

Gomis then stepped up to score from the penalty spot to earn the Swans a point and Monk has said that it was no less than their performance deserved.

"For sure it's an opportunity on goal, so for me it's a red card," Monk told BBC Sport.

"It is a goalscoring opportunity. The letter of the law is that it is a red card and we got what we deserved today.

"I thought our performance warranted at least that point. We went for it and showed our attacking prowess."

Swansea are back in action next weekend when they welcome Newcastle United to the Liberty Stadium.
