Atletico Madrid are set to rival Manchester United in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to a report.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to rival Manchester United in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The 22-year-old Swiss international has drawn rave reviews since joining the German side from Young Boys two years ago.

United are believed to view Zakaria as a natural replacement for Ander Herrera, who left the Red Devils in the summer for Paris Saint-Germain.

However, German outlet Express now says that Atletico have been monitoring his progress and Diego Simeone's men are keen on making a move for the Swiss standout in the near future.

The Spaniards and United are just two of several clubs thought to be interested in Zakaria, though, with Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund among those also linked in recent weeks.
