Dimitri Payet scored twice on his West Ham United debut to give the Hammers a 3-2 win against Southend United in their pre-season friendly at Roots Hall this afternoon.
The hosts took the lead when Kevan Hurst found the net with a deflected effort on 20 minutes, but the away side drew level soon after thanks to a curling free kick from Payet.
Payet's first appearance in a West Ham shirt got even better with 30 minutes on the clock as the Frenchman drilled the ball home from 20 yards to put the visitors ahead.
However, Southend drew themselves level four minutes before the break thanks to Jack Payne's header from Anthony Wordsworth's cross.
An entertaining encounter saw its fifth and final goal on 57 minutes when Luke Prosser diverted Payet's cross into his own net to hand West Ham the victory.
