Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Aaron McCarey fails drugs test

Wolves goalkeeper Aaron McCarey fails a drugs test for a "non-performance enhancing substance".

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Aaron McCarey has failed a drugs test.

The club has revealed that the backup keeper is being investigated by the Football Association after he was found positive of taking a "non-performance enhancing substance".

A club statement said: "The Club is extremely disappointed and concerned that one of its players has failed a drugs test. Neither the player nor the Club will be making any further comment whilst the FA investigation is underway and not until the matter has been fully concluded."

McCarey, who has made just five appearances for the Championship club, denies deliberately taking any banned substances.

It follows the failed drugs tests of Hull City midfielder Jake Livermore and Sheffield United striker Jose Baxter.
