Huddersfield Giants have closed the gap on Wigan Warriors at the top of the Super League table courtesy of a 25-16 win over St Helens this evening.
The hosts took the lead after 10 minutes when Aaron Murphy took advantage of a big overlap on the left to score the game's first try.
Danny Brough's conversion was unsuccessful, but the Giants soon edged further ahead when Joe Wardle was awarded a try by the video ref after touching down a loose ball.
Brough's kick was good this time, and he added a penalty soon after before making a fine break to set up Dale Ferguson, who went over for the Giants' third try.
The Saints hit back shortly after the half-hour mark when Jon Wilkin crashed over the line and Gareth O'Brien added the extras to reduce the deficit to 12 points.
Brough kept the scoreboard ticking over with a drop-goal at the start of the second half before Wardle went over for his second try of the match to all but secure the points for Huddersfield.
St Helens tried to come up with a late flurry, with Josh Jones and Jordan Turner going over in quick succession 10 minutes from time, but the Giants held on for the win.
