Widnes Vikings crush Wakefield Wildcats in Super League clash

Lloyd White inspires Widnes Vikings to a 58-16 hammering of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in their Super League clash.

Widnes Vikings crushed the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 58-16 in their Super League clash as Lloyd White starred with a four-try performance.

The home side started the game as they meant to go on as Joe Mellor crossed the tryline in the third minute, while Kevin Brown extended his side's lead minutes later.

White scored his first try of the afternoon in the 24th minute as he found space in the line to register the score, and Brown added his second to take command.

Richard Owen handed Wakefield a lifeline before the break, but Patrick Ah Van seized the momentum back for Widnes as they immediately responded with a score from the forward.

White then extended his side's advantage with two quick scores to put the game beyond Wakefield and hand the Vikings a 34-4 lead.

Matthew Ryan and Chris Riley notched two tries in succession to give the visitors a brief respite from the scoring avalanche at the opposite end of the field.

However, Widnes were not done as Ah Van notched his second try of the game in the 74th minute, while Chris Clarkson added another minutes later.

There was still time for White to score his fourth in the dying seconds of the game, handing the Vikings an overwhelming victory.
