Cian Healy wins ban appeal

Ireland prop Cian Healy's three-week ban for stamping is reduced to one match following a successful appeal.

Ireland prop Cian Healy has had his three-week ban for stamping on Dan Cole reduced to one match following a successful appeal.

The 25-year-old was found guilty of the mid-range offence after his country's 12-6 defeat to England in the Six Nations on February 10.

"The player had argued, among other things, that by extending the three week suspension over four weekends (to take account of the first "break weekend" in the RBS 6 Nations Championship) was not permissible under the relevant regulations," read a statement from the appeal committee.

"The Appeal Committee therefore concluded that Cian Healy's suspension should end at midnight on Sunday 3 March 2013, and not a midnight on Sunday 10 March 2013."

Healy is now available for Ireland's Six Nations encounter with France in Dublin on March 9.
