Stanislas Wawrinka has won the opening match of this year's ATP World Tour Finals in London with a three-set victory over Tomas Berdych.
Both players have been pitted in Group A of the season-ending tournament with Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer.
Swiss world number eight Wawrinka, who was making his debut appearance at the event, capitalised on some erratic serving from Berdych during the opening set on his way to closing it out 6-3.
Both players squandered five break points between them in a tightly-contested second, but it was Berdych who romped through a tie-break 7-0.
However, Wawrinka gathered himself during the decider and moved 4-1 ahead with some consistent serving before sealing the triumph 6-3.
