David Ferrer overcomes an inconsistent and angry Mikhail Youzhny to advance to the fourth round of the French Open.

Sixth seed David Ferrer has progressed to the fourth round of the French Open after losing just four games while defeating Mikhail Youzhny.

Russian Youzhny couldn't get going in the opener and struggled for consistent groundstrokes as Ferrer blitzed to 6-0 in just 14 minutes.

Youzhny was clearly angry with himself and strangely carved out the word 'sorry' in the Roland Garros clay.

Ferrer broke in the first game of the second to take an early advantage before Youzhny finally registered a game soon after.

He could do very little to impose himself on Ferrer in the remainder of the second as Ferrer took a 6-2 success.

The third began more evenly, with Youzhny having a break-point chance. He failed to convert and was visibly unhappy with himself.

Ferrer ran away after this and again took the set 6-2 to wrap up victory in a little over an hour and a half.

The Spaniard will next face either Marcel Granollers or home favourite Paul-Henri Mathieu.
