Roger Federer has admitted that he experienced some luck during his thrilling five-set victory over Julien Benneteau at Wimbledon on Friday night.

After losing the opening two sets, the six-time champion staged a remarkable comeback on Centre Court to book his place in the last 16.

"A little luck on my side, who knows?" the 30-year-old told BBC Sport. "I fought all the way. The fourth [set] was so close. Julien was playing amazing tennis. I knew it was going to be difficult. He was making me doubt for most of the match. He was amazing.

"But, when you're down two sets to love, stay calm. You just play point for point. It sounds boring but it's the only thing to do. I appreciate the support of my fans over so many years. Tonight, it was special."

Federer will now face Belgium's Xavier Malisse for a spot in the quarter-finals.
